Eligibility
Who can apply for an Akors Foundation grant?
Students currently enrolled in primary school (Primary 1 to 6), secondary school (JS 1 to SS 3) or a tertiary institution (university, polytechnic, monotechnic or college of education).
What is the difference between need-based and merit-based grants?
Need-based grants go to students facing the greatest financial hardship in paying for education. Merit-based grants recognise academic performance, such as good grades, and other personal achievements. You choose one category on your form.
Can I receive more than one grant in a school year?
No. Only one grant can be awarded per student per school year. Past beneficiaries may apply again in a later year.
How many grants are available?
Grants are limited to the first 40 qualified request forms approved in a school year. The amount of each grant is set each year.
Applying
When is the application window?
For the 2026/2027 cycle, applications are accepted from 1 December 2026 to 31 January 2027.
What documents do I need?
A passport photograph with a white background, your report card or result from last term, your essay, and bank details for direct deposit. Tertiary students also need their admission letter and performance sheet. See the full list by level.
How long should my essay be?
Primary 1 to 3: at least 50 words. Primary 4 to 6: at least 100 words. JS 1 to 3: at least 250 words. SS 1 to 3: at least 400 words. Tertiary: at least 500 words. Please adhere strictly to the minimum.
Can I apply more than once?
No. Multiple applications from a single email address will be treated as invalid.
Can a parent fill in the form for a primary school child?
Yes. For primary school pupils we expect a parent or guardian to complete or supervise the form, and their email address is used for updates.
Selection
How are applicants selected?
Applicants are screened using a standardised aptitude test. Shortlisted applications are then re-evaluated by the committee before a final decision is made.
How will I know if I have been selected?
You will be notified by email or text message. If you have a question about your application, please contact the foundation.
Payment
How and when is the grant paid?
By direct deposit into the account you provide, within 21 days of notification. Payments are scheduled for March.
Can the money go into my parent's account?
Yes. Many younger applicants use a parent or guardian’s account. Please make sure the account name is entered exactly as the bank shows it.
Privacy

What does "be a face of the foundation" mean?
If you say yes, we may ask to feature your photo or story on our website. We will always ask again before publishing, and you can change your mind at any time. Your answer never affects selection.
